Research & Ideation
I thought about how I personally learned ASL, and mapped a journey through wireframes that I later designed with pop culture influences. Just Dance was a strong inspiration for the visual language of the final prototype.
Concept
The app uses layouts familiar to those who navigate music streaming services and mobile games, making interaction immediate and intuitive. This structure positions ASL as expressive and rhythmic rather than purely instructional, aligning with the habits of a digital-native audience.
Visuals
A 3D avatar serves as a friendly guide to each sign. Overhead icons clarify hand placement and expression, while a vibrant palette of electric blue, magenta, and soft gradients reflects the energy of teen-focused media. Rounded sans-serif typography reinforces clarity and approachability. Together, these elements create an environment that feels confident, current, and welcoming to new learners.
Outcome
The final design makes ASL learning active and visually engaging. It turns repetition into play and communication into discovery, aligning with the objective of making learning expressive, fun, and lasting.
